Droo-rovision 2004 - Day One

Here we go on another rollercoaster of a tournament....and you thought the last one was hard to decide who to vote for!! This one is going to be hell!!!

The groups and fixtures are now on Drooster-World

Todays matches are the first in Group A:

CROWDED HOUSE v TRAVIS
BON JOVI v GUNS N ROSES

Voting is the same as last time with the exception that you now need to supply more justification for your decision....to quote a GCSE Maths paper, I want you to show your working out!! Even if it is just a certain song or album that swings it one way or the other, or if you have a strong sentimental attachment to a particular band, then let us all know.

The results and next matches will be posted sometime tomorrow (not sure what time cos I'm off all day....hurrah!!)

A Massage From Mr J

If I could post a brand new comment I would, but I can't so I'm hoping someone will read this and post it for me! From the mind that brought you Family Guy (get excited Chris!!!), here is the pilot episode of the all new American Dad! It's only about 6 minutes long, but I'm really rather excited!! Droo-rovision 2004 - At Last A Deadline

OK people, Joll is getting a bit testy!!

I for one don't want to have to try and calm him down so I am issuing a deadline.

All votes for the preliminary round of Droo-rovision 2004 must be in by 8pm tonight. After that I will count up the votes and put the fixtures and groups onto Drooster-World ready for the first matches in group A to begin tomorrow.

Thank you please

Guardian Unlimited Politics | Special Reports | Falling through the net: "What's more, a number of bloggers have taken Ireland's suggestion. Now, MPs Jim Cousins, Sandra Gidley, Boris Johnson, Alan Milburn, Sarah Teather, Nick Raynsford and Lewis Mooney all have blogs dedicated to them and most are not friendly. The moral is: if you don't launch your own blog, someone might do it for you."

*cough*

That'd be me in the papers again, then.

Monday, July 26, 2004

Well...you asked for it!!

DROO-ROVISION 2004

Having read the suggestions for a follow up to Droo-ro 2004 I have decided to go with the musical option, to find the most popular band of all time.  Those of you with a more violent disposition who wanted the fight option don't worry..that will be next!!

So Droo-rovision 2004...This will be run using the same group stages and knockout phases as Droo-ro 2004...but first we need a preliminary phase!!

I need you all to leave a comment, in a Eurovision stylee, listing your 20 favourite bands of all time, giving each one a score between 1 and 20, with 20 being your favourite and 1 being your twentieth favourite.. I'll get mine posted first to show you what I mean.

The scores will be added together and the 16 bands with the most points will go forward to the group stages of Droo-rovision 2004.  To help you I have put a list of 75 bands on Drooster-World to give you some ideas of who you may want to pick.  This list clearly doesn't list everyone and if there is anyone I've missed that you want to include then stick them in...the whole point of the preliminary round is so that I haven't picked the participants again.

I haven't yet picked a start date for Droo-rovision yet.....I thought the best thing to do would be to wait for the choices of the people who voted most often in Droo-ro 2004 who are:

Me, Ann, Mike, Sarah, Chris, Joll, James and Andy U.

Once their comments, and anyone else who chips in, are in I will put the groups and fixtures on Drooster-World and we'll get underway.

Any questions let me know.

Saturday, July 24, 2004

Droo-ro 2004 - THE FINAL!!

Absolutely increbible.

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 19

The result in yesterdays semi was:

FIG ROLL 2-4 JAMMY DODGER

So the line up for the final is:

BOURBON v JAMMY DODGER.

That, however is for tomorrow.....today we have the third place play-off:

CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVE v FIG ROLL

Back tomorrow with the result of this match and the final!!!

Thursday, July 22, 2004

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 18

Well after all the heartache and brain-frying, the result of the first semi-final is:

BOURBON 5-2 CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVE

So the Bourbon takes the first place in Saturday's final, the chocolate digestive has to make do with being the favourite to win Fridays third place play-off.

Todays semi is:

FIG ROLL v JAMMY DODGER.

Going off previous rounds and comments from certain people (Mr Jollie!!) there is a clear favourite but there are no certainties in Droo-ro 2004.

Result at about 5pm tomorrow

Wednesday, July 21, 2004

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 17

Yesterdays result was:

Jammy Dodgers 3-1 Penguin

So Jammy Dodger takes the last place in the semi-finals, the complete line up is:

Today = BOURBON v CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVE
Tomorrow = FIG ROLL v JAMMY DODGER

So lets have your votes for what must be the closest of the semi's:

BOURBON v CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVE

It's a toughy!!  Get thinking!!

Woo Who

IT'S STARTED!!!!!

Filming for the new series of Doctor Who has started on the streets of Cardiff!!!

And tomorrow BBC Wales local news will be having an interview with Christopher Eccelston in his new costume!!!

Thank the lord for SKY....I'll be glued to Welsh TV for the next few months!!

Am I too excited? Yes I am and I love it!!!!

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 16

Yesterdays result:

Chocolate DIgestive 4-0 Abbey Crunch

So Choccy D will play the Bourbon in the semis

Today we have the last quarter final, the winner will play the fig roll:

JAMMY DODGER v PENGUIN

I'm not sure what time the results will be posted, a bit busy tomorrow, so keep your eyes peeled!!

Monday, July 19, 2004

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 15

Yesterdays result was:

FIG ROLL 3-1 HOBNOB

So Fig Roll is the second semi-finalist

Todays match is:

CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVE v ABBEY CRUNCH

The winner will play the Bourbon in the semi-finals

I will post the result at about the same time tomorrow.

Sunday, July 18, 2004

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 14

Yesterdays results were:
Bourbon 5-0 Rich Tea

The remaining line up is:
Today = FIG ROLL v HOBNOB
Monday =  CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVE v ABBEY CRUNCH
Tuesday = JAMMY DODGER v PENGUIN

So todays match is............FIG ROLL v HOBNOB. Chris has already voted for the FIG ROLL... not sure how that will affect the resultant penaltie situation.... I'm sure Andrew will know.

The result and the next match will probably be posted at about the same time tomorrow, but I am only the monkey so wouldn't want to guarantee that! Oh, and I am not updating the tables on Drooster-world either. Andrew can be responsible for that tomorrow.

Saturday, July 17, 2004

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 13

Yesterdays results were:

Group D:

Lemon Puff 4-2 Digestive
Abbey Crunch 2-4 Jammy Dodger

Both Jammy Dodger and Abbey Crunch go through.

So it's goodbye to the group stage (farewell to Shortbread, Malted Milk, Garibaldi, Wagon Wheel, Ginger Nut, Custard Cream, Lemon Puff and the humble Digestive) and a big hello to the quarter finals!!

The full line up is:

Today = BOURBON v RICH TEA
Tomorrow = FIG ROLL v HOBNOB
Monday =  CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVE v ABBEY CRUNCH
Tuesday = JAMMY DODGER v PENGUIN

I have taken great interest in all the suggestions in the event of a draw, treated them all fairly, and decided that my way is best!!

So todays match is............BOURBON v RICH TEA

Please vote in the usual way and in the event of a draw, the first three votes will be recounted and they will decide the winner...so better be quick if you have a strong favourite (as I mentioned before, I will wait until three votes have been cast before I vote so I can't rig the result)

The result and the next match will be posted at about the same time tomorrow

Friday, July 16, 2004

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 12

Well no suprises yesterday...Chocolate Digestive and Penguin are through to the quarter finals.  The results were:

Group C:

Custard Cream 0-5 Chocolate Digestive

Todays fixtures are the last ones in the group stage.  Jammy Dodger and Abbey Crunch have already qualified for the quarter finals but these matches will decide who goes through top and who is second.

Group D:

Lemon Puff v Digestive
Abbey Crunch v Jammy Dodger

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 11

The next two teams through to the quarter finals (from Group B) are Fig Roll and Rich Tea, with Rich Tea just sneaking through with a better goal difference. The results were:

Group B:

Rich Tea 2-5 Fig Roll
Garibaldi 5-2 Wagon Wheel

Who'd have thought the Wagon Wheel would be bottom of that group at the end!!
I'm sure Mike will oblige in posting the final table in due course.

Todays matches are:

Group C:

Ginger Nut v Penguin
Custard Cream v Chocolate Digestive

The results could effect the final table thus (cool word):

Chocolate Digestive is already through and just needs a point to be group winner
All the others could still go through...it's that exciting!!!

I'll post the results shortly after 11am again tommorrow

Droo-ro 2004 - The "Penalties" Problem

As we are now rapidly approaching the knockout stages of Droo-ro 2004 I thought we should sort out what will happen in the event of a draw.

I had thought we could have a golden vote, where the first person to vote after the draw was posted would be the decider...however it has been pointed out that this would favour those people who are online a bit too much...mentioning no names!!

I think a fair way to sort it would be to go back and use the first three votes for a tied match again to decide the result. This would allow more people to have a say in the result. To ensure I am not accused of cheating, during the knockout matches that this could apply in I would delay my vote until at least 3 votes have been cast so I have no say in deciding the result of a tied match.

Does this seem fair to everyone? The first match this may apply to is on Saturday 17th July so if you have any opinions on the matter let me know by then, otherwise I will go ahead with this rule..By the way, feel free to say you don't think this is a good system, but I will expect you to supply a better solution.

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 10

So now we know the first quarter finalists!! Yesterdays results were:

Group A:

Hobnob 1-5 Bourbon
Shortbread 3-3 Malted Milk

So both Bourbon and Hobnob go through. To see the final group table go to Drooster-World.

As for today, these are the final fixtures for group B:

Group B:

Rich Tea v Fig Roll
Garibaldi v Wagon Wheel

The way the results will effect the table is the same a yesterday:

Fig Roll - Just needs a draw to go through as group winner
Garibaldi - Already out but can effect the final table
Wagon Wheel and Rich Tea - Which ever team gets the better result will go through. Both can feasibly go through but they would need a massive win to overhaul the Fig Rolls goal difference. Rich Tea has a slight advantage as it has a better goal difference, however it is playing the group leader and Wagon Wheel is playing the bottom team.

Deadline for votes is tommorrow at about 11am again.

This can''t be right...

I'm sure theres more than just 3!

People need to do thier work up thier profiles I think! Then you can go Blog-surfing and harrass strangers around the world with tenuous interests to your own.

Elsewhere...

Don't forget, I have another blog.

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 9 (Whoops I did two day 6's)

Yesterdays results:

Group D:

Lemon Puff 3-4 Abbey Crunch
Digestive 0-7 Jammy Dodger

OK now it starts to get serious....The last set of fixtures for Group A. Just to help you when you vote, here are a few bits of info about how the results will effect the table:

Hobnob - Just needs a draw to go through as group winner
Malted Milk - Already out but can effect the final table
Bourbon and Shortbread - Now this is where the drama in this group will be played out. Which ever team gets the better result will go through. Both can feasibly go through but they would need a massive win to overhaul the Hobnobs goal difference.

OK so now you know all that, here are the matches:

Group A:

Hobnob v Bourbon
Shortbread v Malted Milk

The deadline will be about 11am tomorrow.

Droo-ro 2004 - Extra

I forgot to mention on the fixtures yesterday that as I am working on late shifts this week, the posting of results and new fixtures will move to the morning...as a result, I need todays votes by 12 noon. The deadline for the rest of the week will be between 11 and 12 in the morning.

Also Mike asked about voting when on holiday...I think that, as the fixture list for the whole of the group stage is on Drooster-World it would be acceptable to email me with all your votes for the period you will be away. If anyone strongly disagrees let me know.

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 7

Bit of a rush today...sorry!

Yesterday...Group C:
Ginger Nut 3-3 Custard Cream
Penguin 0-6 Chocolate Digestive

Today Group D:

Lemon Puff v Abbey Crunch
Digestive v Jammy Dodger

Merci Buckets!!

On the theme of biscuits...

I know a lot will have already seen this, but for those that haven't:

Mango Biscuits?

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 6

Sorry it's a bit late.....I was entertaining don't you know!!

Yesterdays results:

Group B:
Rich Tea 5-3 Garibaldi
Fig Roll 5-3 Wagon Wheel

Muchos respect to Mr Jollie for the Rich Tea / Andy Townsend analogy....anyone else have any "people like biscuits" they'd like to share??

OK as for today, we are into Group C again:

Ginger Nut v Custard Cream
Penguin v Chocolate Digestive

Votes please!!

Promoting Biscuits

God bless Bob Mortimer!!

Ann was watching Big Brother's Little Brother and told me that he was on so I broke my Big Brother ban to watch....Bob is my hero!!

Anyway he promoted our beloved biscuits by saying about Jason of BB..."He is the sort of person that when you walk upto him you expect him to smell of Digestive Biscuits"

The man is a genius

Saturday, July 10, 2004

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 6

Don't worry I haven't forgotten!!

Yesterdays reuslts were as follows:

Group A:

Hobnob 7-0 Malted Milk
Bourbon 3-4 Shortbread

Todays fixtures are back in Group B:

Rich Tea v Garibaldi
Fig Roll v Wagon Wheel

Just to settle the "Abbey Crunch Situation" (as Glenn would call it)...I feel that the Abbey Crunch should remain...if it is popular enough to go a long way then it may prompt the foolish mortals at the biccy company to bring it out of retirement....OK with everyone (I'm a very friendly dictator!!)

Now go and vote peasants!!

Friday, July 09, 2004

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 5

Yesterdays results (including my in-laws....there should be no discrimination on the blog that comes from a northerly direction!!) are:

Group D:

Lemon Puff 3-7 Jammy Dodger
Digestive 3-7 Abbey Crunch

So now we return to group A for the second set of fixtures:

Hobnob v Malted Milk
Bourbon v Shortbread

Can the Hobnob and Bourbons secure their place in the quarter finals or is a shock on the cards.....as that irritating geordie geezer says "You Decide!"

Votes relay

Here are the three missing votes for the all-important Droo-ro 2004 - Day 4 matches:

From Ann:

OK I'm going to go with the abbey crunch. only because it has to be less boring than a digestive.

So my votes are Abbey crunch and Jammy Dodger. Spanks.

Posted by Ann to Blog O' The North at 7/9/2004 07:55:42 AM

From James:

From the Scott-house here in Darlington these are the results from the Scott-Peoples.. 2 points goes to Lemmon Puff, 1 point to Jammy Dodger and in the second round 3 points to Abbey Crunch. Thank you and have a great evening, good luck to all the biscuits!

Voting results from 3 people in this one!

--
Posted by James to Blog O' The North at 7/9/2004 09:07:55 AM

From Chris:

I'd have to say Lemon Puff and I don't know what an Abby Crunch is but I doubt it can beat a Digestive with a nice cuppa.

So to clarify Digestive and Lemon Puff from the Sheffield Jury.

I'm going to do some research into the comments problems.

Not sure about James voting for three people; if Ann's mam and dad don't think Droo-ro 2004 is important enough for them to vote themselves, I'm not sure their votes should count. :)

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 4

Yesterdays results (including Ann's because there were Blogger probs, again!!)are:

Group C:
Ginger Nut 2-6 Chocolate Digestive
Penguin 7-1 Custard Cream

A very good day to be chocolatey!!

OK todays fixtures are the first for Group D, another potentially tight group:

Lemon Puff v Jammy Dodger
Digestive v Abbey Crunch

Lets hope everything works today.

Listen damn you!!!

Right I'm going to keep going on about this until everyone in the world agrees with me...or until something shiny catches my attention and I forget what I'm talking about.

I'm now the VERY proud owner of all three series of Family Guy, I hear a 4th season is being produced for DVD also...It will be mine!!!

Family Guy is just genius, take the Simpsons add the neighbourhood from King Of The Hill and the surreal subversion of South Park, mix it up add a talking alcoholic gentlemen dog and a homicidal megalomaniac baby with the diction of a seasoned RSC player and you have the finest...funniest 'adult' cartoon ever made!

Victory is mine!

Wednesday, July 07, 2004

Damn blogger not letting me vote

Damn it I can't post me biscuit choices.
Penguin and ginger nut... I would ordinarily go with the chocolate, but again dipability you have to go with the ginger.. ginger is normally wrong.. however I stick with my first answer.

I hope the cheating ref lets this vote count.

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 3

Here are yesterdays results:

Group B:
Rich Tea 3-4 Wagon Wheel
Fig Roll 5-2 Garibaldi

Hopefully a less controversial result

OK todays fixtures are the first for Group C....you know what to do:

Ginger Nut v Chocolate Digestive
Penguin v Custard Cream

Go to it chaps and lady-chaps

A Website for Droo-ro 2004...

...well kind of.

I have added a new section for Droo-ro 2004 to my website. Here you can find all the results, fixtures and group tables.

All very exciting and waiting for you to have a look...just visit DROOSTER-WORLD

Droo-ro 2004 - Bowing To Pressure

OK.....as the votes for the first match were more than a little controversial, and now that all the votes have reappeared, I am willing to resubmit the results for the first set of group games.

As a result the new scores are as follows:

HOBNOB 4-3 SHORTBREAD
BOURBON 4-3 MALTED MILK

I hope this satisfies those who accused me of being Swiss!!

Tuesday, July 06, 2004

Droo-ro 2004 - Day 2

Thanks to everyone who voted yesterday...unfortunately, probably due to my accidental double post or just a Blogger error, it looks like three votes may have gone missing. I can only apologise and hope, rather than promise, that it won't happen again.

The results for the first set of matches in Group A were:

HOBNOB 1-2 SHORTBREAD
BOURBON 2-1 MALTED MILK

Todays matches are the first set for Group B so we need your votes on the following:

RICH TEA v WAGON WHEEL
FIG ROLL v GARIBALDI

Results and next fixtures at about the same time tomorrow (fingers crossed!!)

Monday, July 05, 2004

Droo-ro 2004 - Match Day 1

Here are the first fixtures for Droo-ro 2004...These are the first pair of matches for group A:

HOBNOB v SHORTBREAD

BOURBON v MALTED MILK

Simply post a comment, picking your favourite biscuit in each of the two matches...the vote will close when I post tomorrows matches, probably late afternoon time. One vote each.

Sunday, July 04, 2004

Today I am mostly bemused by the possibility....

... that there must somewhere be a designer that is paid good money to design clothes for toots (aka charvers). For example today I was shopping and spotted a little pink vest top. Printed on the front was a chihuahua, and underneath it was printed

Pedigree Puppy
Hug me
Kiss me
Love me

That's shit... I'm right aren't I?! Someone has obviously been paid to design it, and this is just one example... there are many other bad clothes that people are being paid to design. Are they given that as the design brief....'design a toot clothing line, the cheapest shit fabric you can get, and the tackier the better really'? It must have taken some serious time to come up with that pedigree puppy stuff... it would have looked better without it. God damn, that irritates me. Design good clothes, it surely must take about the same length of time.

AND how much does it cost to either make tops in fabric that doesn't shrink in the first wash.. not that much.

And breathe.

Are the Browser Wars Back? - How Mozilla's Firefox trumps Internet Explorer. By Paul Boutin

Are the Browser Wars Back? - How Mozilla's Firefox trumps Internet Explorer. By Paul Boutin

Slate is owned by Microsoft and even they are telling you to ditch Internet Explorer...

Droo-ro 2004 - An explanation

OK here it is...

On Sunday Euro 2004 is over...Tim is out of Wimbledon...the Olympics is ok but I can't get excited about it...as for the tour de france, no thanks....the new premiership season is still 45 days away...I need to fill the hole!!

The solution is Droo-ro 2004, the biscuit championship!!

The set up is identical to Euro 2004 but the 16 football teams have been replaced by biscuits. At this point, to prevent any controversy, I'd like to say that all the participants have been verified by "Nice Cup Of Tea And A Sit Down" as actually being biscuits. It is for this reason that Penguins and Wagon Wheels are in but the Jaffa Cake is out...I'm sorry but that's the way the cookie crumbles (Pun intended).

OK so the group stages are as follow:

Group A - HOBNOB, SHORTBREAD, BOURBON, MALTED MILK
Group B - RICH TEA, WAGON WHEEL, FIG ROLL, GARIBALDI
Group C - GINGER NUT, CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVE, PENGUIN, CUSTARD CREAM
Group D - LEMON PUFF, JAMMY DODGER, DIGESTIVE, ABBEY CRUNCH

These groups were drawn at random using a random number generator from www.random.org and were overseen by an independent andrewdicator.

So now what I need from you....Each day I will "post" a match on our beloved blog....all you have to do is log on each day and leave a comment on each post to vote for your preferred winner...I will total up the votes and announce the winner the next day with the next fixture...so, for example, the first fixture of the tournament will be Hobnob v Shortbread on Monday 5th of July so you need to leave a comment picking your favourite of these two. Each biscuit will play the other 3 in their group. Points will be awarded as at Euro 2004...3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw...and these points will decided the final league placings. The top two from each group will go through to the quarter finals.

OK? Please feel free to post any questions....don't forget, it all kicks off on Monday!!
