Droo-rovision 2004 - Day Two
Well only one day in and already some people are finding it hard to handle the strain of picking between all-time favourites.......good!! That was the idea!!
Yesterdays results were:
Group A:
CROWDED HOUSE 3-1 TRAVIS
BON JOVI 2-2 GUNS N ROSES
Todays fixtures are:
Group B:
ROLLING STONES v U2
AEROSMITH v REM
I think I know how Joll will vote in the second of those fixtures, but he may suprise us all yet!!
Results and next fixtures tomorrow at about 9am.
UPDATE - Ann is going to put the results and fixtures on tomorrow, to allow more people time to vote, so you have until about 5pm-ish to vote on the matches above.

Bullies - you started without us! Just for information, I would have gone for Crowded House(chocolate cake and pineapple head) and Bon Jovu being as that fella from Guns and Roses looked daft in a red bandana and Bon Jovi are the only band where we own all albums and some songs make me cry (Always, In These Arms etc). Add to that the sexy man in ill fitting trousers and you have a winner.
For today :
U2 easily win over Rolling Stones ; we have U2 stuff and I like Stuck in a Moment, With or Without You and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. Bono is a dude. Sadly, I've never heard anything by the Stones that makes me think 'wow' and I can't stand the leading man. Strutting about on the stage doing that weird arm thing. And Jerry Hall is lovely - she deserved better.
Second Match is also easy as I couldn't name an REM song (incredible isn't it, that someone like me exists)and Aerosmith did that 'I don't want to miss a thing' song that I think is sooooo lovely and tear jerky. Maybe they did other songs too that were good, dunno.
So the votes of the self confessed musical cretin are U2 and Aerosmith.

Match one my vote will have to go with the stones...I do like U2, especially songs like "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me", "Discotheque" and "Elevation", it's just that The Stones have a very special place in my heart and how can I vote against "Jumping Jack Flash", "Sympathy For The Devil" and "I Go Wild"...besides which if I don't vote for them Keith may try and knife me or take me down like a mutha with his guitar!! (Joll will get that little reference!!)
Match two is a lot closer, which is a suprise!! I used to hate REM with a Joll like passion, but I have loved their last few albums and have developed a taste for the earlier stuff too....Don't get me wrong, I still think that Messers Buck, Berry, Mills and Stipe have a lot of begging for forgivness to do if they want to avoid eternity in Hell for crimes against music...exhibit A "Shiny Happy People"....but I can see past that now. However I do have a large soft spot for Aerosmith and the three songs that swung it their way are "Pink", "Hole In My Soul" and "Amazing"
To summerise: The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith

Another difficult one. Well the first match is easy becasue although U2 are good they are far from being the Stones..So the Stones.
REM and Aerosmith slightly more difficult, so I had to have another play-off. It was close REM 4-5 Aerosmith and a draw. So Aerosmith win by a whisker.

Just for the record, I'd have voted Crowded House and Bon Jovi in the last round, had it started later.
In this group, I can't really vote for anyone other than U2 and REM since they were the bands in my top 20 list, which was somewhat lacking in Stones and Aerosmith.
When the Stones got started, there were very few bands of the rock and/or roll persuasion, so they had very little competition. In such an open field, anyone could make it big. U2 had to struggle along in a crowded marketplace; they are clearly the superior band.
Aerosmith: big lips; an elevator; daughter in Lord of The Rings; a bit screechy. REM: Kenneth, frequency? end of the world; collect boarding cards; happy people. 'Nuff said.
