Droo-rovision 2004 - Day One
Here we go on another rollercoaster of a tournament....and you thought the last one was hard to decide who to vote for!! This one is going to be hell!!!
The groups and fixtures are now on Drooster-World
Todays matches are the first in Group A:
CROWDED HOUSE v TRAVIS
BON JOVI v GUNS N ROSES
Voting is the same as last time with the exception that you now need to supply more justification for your decision....to quote a GCSE Maths paper, I want you to show your working out!! Even if it is just a certain song or album that swings it one way or the other, or if you have a strong sentimental attachment to a particular band, then let us all know.
The results and next matches will be posted sometime tomorrow (not sure what time cos I'm off all day....hurrah!!)
4 Comments:
Crowded House can be ever so slightly twee as Anyone Can Tell but It's Only Natural you Pineapple Head. Travis has the oxymoronic Happy. So, Crowded House gets my vote in my Private Universe. Guns N' Roses gets my next vote because their acoustic sets are rather nice and no one should be able to forgive Bon Jovi for the Queen Of New Orleans.

First up I will go with Crowded House. My reason for this is that as much as I love "The Man Who", Travis seem to me to have been on a downward spiral, with the odd exception, ever since. Also it will take something special to top Crowded House for me...If they had only ever released "Fall At Your Feet" then they would beat most of the bands in this tournament..."I don't pretend to know what you want, but I offer love"...Genius!!
Match two is really no contest for me...while I liked their cover version of "Sympathy For The Devil", I have never really had much time for GnR....however I have been a huge fan of Bon Jovi for many years now and while they are also on a bit of a downer at the moment ("Bounce" was quite poor and "This Left Feels Right" sounds more like a band treading water than anything I have ever heard!!) the fact that they recorded "Keep The Faith" and "These Days" in particular, I can allow them a few duffers...they just need to pull something out of the hat if they want to keep my vote in future!!
So to summarise: CROWDED HOUSE and BON JOVI

Oh no! I have to think of fully thought out reasons, not just my usual instinct responses. These are both difficult decisions, my instincts say crowded house and guns and roses. I shall now rationalise and see if I come out with the same result!
So for the first match Crowded house are a bit middle aged and to be honest I think I have been programmed into my liking of them. Travis songs all sound the same to me. I think because my distinct nonchalance for either, I will have to go with Crowded House becasue at least they have a bit of variation.
Right to the second match which for me (as with Joll) is difficult but in an entirely different way. I fell I should be more dedicated to Bon Jovi for sentimaental reasons, but as Andrew pointed out they have been a bit cack of late.. but is is better to be cack than not to be at all.... hmm I have posed myself and even more difficult dilema. holy crap this is a hard one. I should start typing with a fully formed idea really. I think I am going to have to have a play-off. Back soon!

so the play-off result is 3 draws, and GnR 3 - 4 Bon Jovi, so despite my instincts, Bon Jovi gets it.
So if I remember that was Crowded House and Bon Jovi.
Hope they aren't all as difficult as this.
