Well...you asked for it!!
DROO-ROVISION 2004
Having read the suggestions for a follow up to Droo-ro 2004 I have decided to go with the musical option, to find the most popular band of all time. Those of you with a more violent disposition who wanted the fight option don't worry..that will be next!!
So Droo-rovision 2004...This will be run using the same group stages and knockout phases as Droo-ro 2004...but first we need a preliminary phase!!
I need you all to leave a comment, in a Eurovision stylee, listing your 20 favourite bands of all time, giving each one a score between 1 and 20, with 20 being your favourite and 1 being your twentieth favourite.. I'll get mine posted first to show you what I mean.
The scores will be added together and the 16 bands with the most points will go forward to the group stages of Droo-rovision 2004. To help you I have put a list of 75 bands on Drooster-World to give you some ideas of who you may want to pick. This list clearly doesn't list everyone and if there is anyone I've missed that you want to include then stick them in...the whole point of the preliminary round is so that I haven't picked the participants again.
I haven't yet picked a start date for Droo-rovision yet.....I thought the best thing to do would be to wait for the choices of the people who voted most often in Droo-ro 2004 who are:
Me, Ann, Mike, Sarah, Chris, Joll, James and Andy U.
Once their comments, and anyone else who chips in, are in I will put the groups and fixtures on Drooster-World and we'll get underway.
Any questions let me know.

I've not got time to list my twenty right now, but go to Google, type in a 4-letter word beginning with 'c' and rhymes with 'Gareth Hunt', then click the 'I'm feeling lucky' button.
Tee hee.

Just to check, no solo artists? If so, is Jools Holland not sailing a bit close? What about Bryan Adams as he always has the same musicians?

No solo artists.
Anyone who has a regular NAMED band is ok.....eg Jools Holland And His Rythm & Blues Orchestra, Bill Wymans Rhythm Kings, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.....but not Bryan Adams....sorry but rules is rules!!

The Band To Band Links finder might be of use. The Beatles to The Rolling Stones: 4 degrees of separation.

Well I'll participate but I somehow see a Terry Wogan 'oh well who could have possibly predicted this result' style sarcasm in the sense that anyone I'm going to list isn't going to stand much of an ice cube in hells chance of getting anywhere

Joll, if you deleted that comment by accident, I have it on my email, if you'd like it back. Or did you change your mind?

Chris
Don't take the p*** out of Michael, it's mean.
I will yet be a while to make my final choices. It's hard this. Glad I can put Bob Marley and the Wailers in though! I thought I was going to have to leave that out. Give me a day or two.. tell you what I will work on it whilst Big brother is on. OK?

OK we are just waiting on James and Mike now.....Mike for the love of God, you have put five posts on this now so why is it so hard to write a list of 20 bands??? PULL YOUR FINGER OUT FELLA!!!!

I realized I missed one and had very bad judgement on another… This has led to Bob Marley being booted out of the top 20. I’m a fickle supporter. Hopefully I have this right this time. As I said it includes bits from the long mid and short term lists. I reverse order so starting with the least points.
1) U2 (Medium term, but far from 1st choice)
2) Foo fighters (Fluctuates and so only a short term choice)
3) Supergrass (Medium term)
4) Coldplay (Long term but falling)
5) Levellers (Long term but suffers fluctuations)
6) Bon Jovi (Even I am surprised they fall so low.)
7) Matchbox 20 (Still a short termer really)
8) Jethro Tull (Long term- Blame my Dad and be grateful The Shadows aren't on here!)
9) Del Amitri (Long Term - So many songs to sing to.)
10) The Doors (Long Term but not as good as I 1st thought)
11) Keane (Short term - not sure how long it will remain)
12) Aerosmith (Long term - they have scarves and Stephen Tyler is great)
13) Guns n Roses (Long Term)
14) Nirvana (Medium Term on the way to being Long term)
15) Red Hot Chili Peppers (Medium - Long term)
16) Faithless (Long term)
17) White Stripes (Has recently moved to my medium term list)
My Top three are all of these are long term list.
18) Stereophonics (Sorry Joll!)
19) Beatles
20) Rolling Stones
That shall have to suffice. I cannot keep changing my mind.

Ok, I still don't understand how one person with a silly name (The Streets) constitutes a band, but four people who regularly play together but happen to go under the name of their lead singer doesn't, but hey ho.
Ok, my top 20, comprising of bands I used to like but don't listen to much any more much, current faves and a few who I'm just getting into:
Barenaked LadiesCrowded HouseDealershipThe Flaming LipsHootie And The BlowfishTravisThe StereophonicsThe Beautiful SouthThe Small HoursOasisBlur (tee hee)
ColdplayBon JoviU2Foo FightersFun Lovin' CriminalsThe Polyphonic SpreeREMTexasJamesI even included lots of linky-clicky goodness. In this Internet/Google age, you wouldn't pick 'Texas' as the name for your band; very hard to find their official site. James were surprisingly easy to find.
(I was going to post some other unknowns, like The Hot Quiche Conspiracy and Fude. Just to look cool.)
